We are Edward and Kate Luersman, and we started Blessed Are They Grief Counseling LLC to help Catholic adults who are struggling with a vocation to marriage and family life, because of infertility, pregnancy or infant loss, or involuntary singlehood. Our counseling practice is here to help people just like you: ones that have it within them to rediscover relief and peace, but just need the help to get there. 

We help our clients find more purpose, fulfillment, and peace by giving them the support and tools they need to better cope with infertility, pregnancy or infant loss, or involuntary singlehood and to restore joy and hope in their lives.

How we can help.

Many of today’s solutions for infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, and involuntary singlehood are not sensitive to the complicated reality of the Catholic faith and a married vocation that has not fully unfolded. Add that to inadequate awareness and sensitivity in the Church, all which lead many Catholics in these circumstances to feel misunderstood, alone, or judged. We know that your situation is unique, so we will work hard to learn about your specific experience and difficulties and offer therapy tailored to you with your specific goals in mind.

What does the process look like?

First, we explore your unique journey with infertility, pregnancy or infant loss, or involuntary singlehood that is causing you to feel overwhelmed, uncertain, and alone. We give you a warm and authentic space to express and feel your emotions and to feel seen and understood in your pain. Then, we will help you learn more about healthy grief, coping ideas, your faith, and yourself, all to improve your response to your suffering. Through our work together, you’ll be equipped with the validation and guidance you need to recover peace and purpose in your life and not just survive your suffering.

Edward’s specialized training in therapy for grief, infertility, pregnancy and infant loss, and couples means he has the expertise you need and deserve when seeking relief from your suffering.  But at the end of the day, you want to know you’re working with someone who “gets” what it means to be a Catholic struggling with infertility, pregnancy or infant loss, or being single, right?

We get it because we have personally experienced the pain of over 6 years of primary infertility, a pregnancy loss, and longing for parenthood. We also have deep empathy for and have accompanied many single Catholics who similarly long for and grieve marriage and parenthood. We know that sometimes you feel hopeless, alone, and suffocated. As passionate Catholics, we also know that your faith can sometimes bring consolation but can also bring distress if you don’t understand why God would allow your suffering.

So when we work together, you won’t just get a trained therapist. You’ll get someone who truly understands what you’re going through.

Meet the Therapist

Hi, I’m Edward!

Edward Luersman, infertility, pregnancy loss, and singles therapist in Ohio, sitting in office chair

I am married to my beloved wife Kate, have a feisty cat and a “velcro” golden retriever, and love Jesus and my Catholic faith. I enjoy gardening, going on walks and spending time outside, watching Ohio State football, and am low-key obsessed with going to the beach.

I became a licensed counselor after a previous career in horticulture and a year at a Catholic seminary. I have had the privilege of offering therapy to many people struggling with infertility, pregnancy loss, infant loss, and being single. I have also personally experienced the pain of primary infertility and one miscarriage. The pain of my personal struggles fuels my passion for helping others who struggle with part of their dream of marriage and family not coming to be.
